Student Registration

We are delighted that you are considering Potsdam Central School District and look forward to welcoming your family to our school community. Our goal is to make the student enrollment process as simple, efficient, and welcoming as possible.

The Potsdam Central School District utilizes the SchoolTool Online Enrollment Portal to begin the registration process for all new students. After completing the online application, families will finalize the enrollment process at the school their child will attend.

Families with Children in Multiple Schools

If your family is enrolling children who will attend more than one school building, simply complete the enrollment process at the school where your youngest child will attend. The school secretary will coordinate with the other school building(s) to ensure all required registration information and documentation are shared, making the process as convenient as possible for your family.

Enrollment is completed at the school your child will attend.

Grades 9 – 12: Potsdam High School

Pre-K – Grade 4: Lawrence Avenue Elementary School

Grades 5 – 8: A. A. Kingston Middle School

Online Enrollment Process

The Potsdam Central School District uses the SchoolTool Online Enrollment Portal for all new student registrations.

To begin the enrollment process:

1. Complete the online registration through the SchoolTool Online Enrollment Portal.
2. Once your application has been submitted, the appropriate school secretary will contact you if additional information or documentation is needed.
3. Bring the required documentation to your child’s school to complete the registration process.
4. Once all required documentation has been received and reviewed, your child’s enrollment will be finalized.

Required Documentation

Please be prepared to provide the following documentation during the enrollment process:

• Child’s birth certificate or other proof of age
• Parent or guardian photo identification
• Proof of residency within the Potsdam Central School District
• Current immunization records
• Physical examination and health records (when applicable)
• Custody or guardianship documentation (if applicable)
• Any educational records from the student’s previous school, including report cards, transcripts, IEPs, or 504 Plans, if available

Residency Requirements

New York State law requires school districts to verify that students reside within district boundaries. 

Acceptable Documentation

Proof of Residency

For a child to attend Potsdam Central School District, the child and their legal guardian must reside within the district boundaries. Proof of residency is required to enroll a new student. Examples of this include:

• Copy of utility bills
• Tax statements
• Check stubs from wages, public assistance, or social security
• Current rental/lease agreement (does not include rented portions of a house or apartment, or agreements formulated with relatives) with the following:
  • Guardian and student names
  • Manager’s or owner’s name and telephone number
  • Written verification of current status
• Current property tax bill
• Current homeowner’s or renter’s insurance bill
• Current state or federal tax return
• Current correspondence from an official government agency, including:
  • IRS/Social Security/Child Support/Foster Care
  • Voter Registration/Polling Information
  • Jury Summons/Subpoena
  • Any current document from a federal, state or county agency

• Mortgage statement or property tax bill
• Lease or rental agreement
• Utility bill

Health Information

• Proof of physical exam completed within the last year.
• Proof of immunization in accordance with NYS Dept. of Health Guidelines
• Proof may be faxed directly from physician’s office to the enrollment clerk at (315) 265-8103 – ATTN: Deborah McGregor.
• A completed Authorization to Administer Medication Form, if applicable.

Additional Documentation

• Prior school records and test results.
• Most current Individualized Education Program (IEP), if applicable.
• Custodial or guardianship documents, if applicable.
• Evidence of custody of the child includes but is not limited to judicial custody orders or guardian orders, or affidavits of custody from parent(s) and/or persons in parental relation.
• Information related to a temporary living situation, if applicable.
• Documents related to any prior name changes, if applicable.
